We love a good table styling opportunity and jump at the chance to change-up the styling on our rustic dining table and farmhouse table in the barn. Styling the dining table for Christmas can make a real impact upon your guests leaving them with memories above and beyond the Christmas turkey! It can also be a lot of fun and a great activity for the children to help with, so what better excuse for letting your inner-stylist out than Christmas?!

Here are some of our top tips for styling your dining table this Christmas. Remember it’s always important to keep it simple, don’t over clutter so that the task of serving and eating is made difficult and try to weave in any personal touches where you can.

Any dining table from modern to a farmhouse table can be instantly lifted and dressed for the season with a runner. We love these vintage linen table runners and the subtle red stripe is perfect for Christmas.

The natural material and colours in the runner allows you to complete the look in so many different ways. Team up with our antlers, eucalyptus and seasonal greenery, add some pine cones and sprigs of holly with their red berries to match in, or keep it simple and let the runner do the talking.

Any excuse to add a candle to a setting! We love them as they add so much depth and atmosphere. To allow for the all important serving dishes and wine glasses, we recommend either going for one large centre piece or two or three smaller candles positioned off-centre.

These lovely hand carved alabaster tealights are perfect if you opt for several smaller candles. They are made of natural salt stone or alabaster and when lit the body of the candle holder glows adding a beautiful natural white glow.

If you plan to let your family serve themselves from large bowls on the table then it’s important to make the placement of these a priority. Once you’ve spaced these out you can see how much space you have to add decoration from one large centrepiece.

A large vintage bell jar filled with seasonal greenery is always a winner and a great task to keep little hands busy! Any leftover greenery can be artfully tucked and twisted around your serving bowls to finish the look.

We always like to add a little personal touch to each place setting and a Christmas decoration for each guest is one of our favourites. They finish a table setting off perfectly and make a lovely, memorable gift.

This year we’ll be placing one of these wooden acorn decorations on each plate with a handwritten vintage luggage tag with each persons name on to finish our Christmas table.

If you’re struggling to balance decorations and all of the many bits of crockery, glassware and cutlery then don’t forget that your dining table has chairs which can also be decorated!

Seasonal greenery can be used here to weave in and around your chair or a simple string of decorations or a garland can also do the job – this white felt pom pom garland would work a treat – again this is a great job for little hands who are eager to help!

We’d love to see photos of your Christmas dining table – be sure to share your photos with us on Instragram and we’ll share ours too.

Merry Christmas!
